Whether it be beauty blogs, vlogs, or Instagram accounts, makeup artists and enthusiasts all appear to be gravitating to the same style of makeup. You know it: the overly-perfect eyebrows lined in concealer and sharpened to a point, the overly-plump, Kylie Jenner pout, and the black cat eye with varying eye shadow colors, framed by super-long false lashes.
Apply. Snap. Repeat.
Frankly, its a tad tiring. Everyone is morphing into a Kim Kardashian look-a-like. Even super famous vloggers like Jaclyn Hill and Nikki from Nikkie Tutorials are all fans of this trend. They’re beautiful and talented artists, but they always look THE SAME. Instead of stunning women, they make themselves look like giant child pageant queens.
Sometimes you might want this flawless, airbrushed look. That’s fine. But what about varying up the look? I’m not saying you have to go ‘natural’, but you can try something different from time to time. New York Fashion Week is happening, and you don’t see any of the models on the runway looking like this. Now, they also have bleached brows and crazy, avant-garde looks that would never fly on the street, but at least they’re different.
I realize it’s a fad, but it’s time for this fad to hit the road. I’m so over you. Let’s play with colors and finishes and combinations, drop the contour brush, and enjoy not all looking the SAME.
It’s not just me. The New York Times thinks so too. I even wrote my article taking issue with the baking trend long before they even published this article. So, you know, I’m basically like a NYT writer. #JustAFact

Amen! I sometimes see girls in real life sporting this look and it does NOT look good for every day going to an office job look. It’s really only passable in editorials / photography. I especially really dislike the thick drawn-on brows… why so angry?

Totally agree. In pictures it can look cool. We need some creativity, though. It also alienates women and men from exploring makeup, because, if they don’t like that heavily-made-up look, they feel like they can’t be a part of the world of beauty. So sad.
